Portico tiles nearly done, painting continues. . .

We got to the house on Saturday and THE PAINTERS WERE THERE! Working on a Saturday, in Australia. . . GOOD LORD! (Not that we're complaining).

Portico tiles. . . . they look a bit brown against the grey of the walls. . . may have to re-think the colour of the bricks surrounding the door. . . Phil has been thinking STACKSTONES!!! Maybe we'll consider it if we win the lottery!

You'll see that some of the tiles are patterned, they have white triangles in the corners. . . courtesty of the painters not covering the tile pile inside with a sheet when they sprayed the ceilings! Oops! Hope it comes off!

So THAT'S how they do the cutting in around the skirtings! Think I'll be getting meself some of that blue tape for when we do the theatre room (the creamy coloured stuff I got is CRAP. . . though it did only cost about $1 a roll. . . hmmm. . . buy cheap pay dear??

Phil was telling me that the doors just look great now they've been painted. . . really fresh and white. The design isn't hip and cool like some peoples' doors (Loretta). . . we thought we'd keep it traditional and simple.

And we got some scotia on the alfresco ceiling. .. now it's all ready to paint!

  1. Saturday must have been the day of work for the trades. Our electricians were there on Saturday putting in all our lights and other work that needed doing. : )

You asked about the big hole in the wall looking onto the piers in my photos....that is for a huge in wall fish tank (coral reef tank) I've also just put up some pics showing the splashback finished so you can see those shiny brown tiles...yup kinda looks like glass. very nice.

I'm liking watching yours come together also...my 2 favourite houses to watch growing yours and mine.

  2. Crikey. . . maybe they all drank a bit too much over chrissy and the coffers need re-filling! Anyway. . . who cares. . . we're getting our places built quicker. . . yeah!!!

Oh wow. . . that's going to be one helluva fish tank. . . what will you be keeping in there? Sharks? I had some goldfish when I was young! :D

And thank you! I love watching yours too as there's always just so much going on. . . you must be so close to moving in now!

  4. I think our painters need to know about the blue tape idea cos the lines where the wall meets the cornice are terribly messy right throughout our house. That will be one thing we will be telling them to fix before we pay the final payment and take the keys. Far from what I would expect from professional painters.

I'd like to say we thought of the slim window design you mentioned in the comment on my blog, but no it's a Montgomery Homes design. They use it in alot of their homes. They look good...also lets in lots of light for a small window. Guess it could be used for growing herbs on that benchtop for some people or something.

Also looks good with the splashback tiles surrounding it...kinda like a picture in a frame...the view out of that window on our block is of trees and mountains so very nice.

  5. Loretta. . . our painter has been excellent! I've gleaned all sorts of information from him, he's a top guy and we're very lucky. . . While he was away picking up paint, I asked the guys what he was like as a boss. . . they said "oh, he's really good. . . but he's a bit fussy". . I said GREAT!!!!!

you gotta love white doors!!! Actually ours are "Snowdrop White" by Wattyl. . . I asked for boring old white, but Stuart said that he uses the snowdrop stuff as it has a bit of black die in it and doesn't tend to yellow over the years, like most gloss paints do.

  6. Hey med! Bad luck with your rotten painters! I should send ours around, we couldn't be happier.

Oh. . . you could have claimed the slim window idea as your own, I'd never have known. It is really a good idea though. .. Loretta is having a window splashback too.

Oh crikey. . . views of mountains and trees. .. I WANT A MOUNTAIN VIEW DAMMIT! Haha, guess I'll have to just cope with the road out the back and the cars whizzing by, honking us if we're sat on the alfresco! GROW TREES, GROW!!!!
