Saturday 31st October 2009 - Roof trusses delivered

OK, first of all, more of the same from yesterday (Phil can't be trusted to take all the necessary photos)

Our remaining roof trusses have been delivered. Yay! Good omen for Tuesday we're hoping.

Friday 30th October - Bricking on upper level

Another day, another stack of bricks laid. . . they're now well into the second level above the garage. . . here's a view from the front:
From the side (garages with bedroom window above) - Which was originally going to be up higher (top of the window used to be level with the piece of wood in the frame above). . .as per the plan. . . but it was higher than the other window in that bedroom (one of the front windows) so we decided we wanted them both on the same level. Thanks for lowering it Jeff!

Around the back - the second window along the back wall is the bathroom window, also a window that we need to lower, so it sits right on top of the spa bath - I'm going to spend lots of hours sat in the warm bubbles with the window up looking out at the lovely view. . . of the cars zooming by on the main road behind! bugger.

Thursday 29th October - Scaffolding!

It was getting a bit dark when we got out there tonight, but we were delighted to find scaffolding! Hurrah! This means that they will be able to start on the upper level above the garage. Jeff's told us that bricking should be finished on Monday, then roof trusses should be put up Tuesday and Wednesday, and the tin roof to be started on Thursday (which should take a week). Looks like the brickies may be finished on time (or, if not, they're very close) which is excellent considering the awful weather we've had this week.

Wednesday 28th October - still more brickwork

Crappy weather all week, and still the brickies work!

Around the front - they've started doing the columns for the front portico:

Some of the front windows are done - protruding brick frame around the front ones that we're going to paint to look like an architrave (cheaper way of doing it, apparently!)

Monday 26th October - more brickwork

More brickwork! And in the pouring rain too!!!! Good onya guys!!!!

23rd October - plumbing, brickwork

Plumbing started and brickwork re-commenced - they've laid the bottom two courses of bricks to the perimeter of the house and they've started doing round the back of the house.

Framing Finished

I went out to the site this morning, as I had a couple of other things to do in the area (and couldn't resist). . . there were four framers running around like crazy people fixing up our frame. . . it was only 10am and it looked like they'd nearly finished! By the time Phil got there tonight, the job was a good en. Great job guys! Apparently windows will go in tomorrow, then bricking will be finished, then roof struts, then roof. . . yeehargh!

Looking through this wall is the master bedroom, taken from the living room, you can see the big rectangular frame bit which is the shape of the recess for the TV.

This is the wall at the back of the living room, you can just see the three rectangles in the frame that will be three cutouts in the gyprock.

Framing Started

They've started framing! Hurrah! They look like they've finished the framing in the garage. . .

Big steel beam that will support the top floor. . . rather unfortunately there'll be a post going down to the ground from it. . . wonder who'll be the first to drive into it and have the house falling on my head??? (me)

This is the top floor taken from the main slab. The laundry is on the lower level, the powder room fits into the little nook and the closest raised bit is where the stair (or two) will go up to the top level. . . there's only 30cm difference between the two levels.
