We bought a Brushbox and a Eucalyptus Robusta.
Any normal person would have though "we're in the middle of a torrential downpour, probably not the best time to plant trees, especially when the ground is pretty much 100% clay". . . but we're not normal people! So off we went to the nursery. $260 later and we had two 2metre tall trees in the back of Phil's ute, and were driving at 20kph towards home, hoping they didn't fall out.
Clever us, we'd already got Trev to dig out the holes with his bobcat, so we only had to put in the trees and fill them back up. Only we'd got Trev to dig holes that were about a cubic metre. . . so we had 2 cubic metres of dirt to shovel back into the holes! It was good going at first, after we'd taken the wet crust off the piles of dirt, the stuff underneath was dry so we were able to shovel with ease. We'd got the first tree in it's hole and were 75% of the way to filling it when a downpour hit. Phil, Lucky and I jumped in the car and watched the rain pour down. . . and watched the rain pour down. . . the side of the hill, and fill up the hole that we'd just about filled up. . . I'm sure THAT's no good for the Robusta!!! oops.
After the deluge stopped, we got back out of the car and set to shovelling again. . . only by this time, the dirt had taken on the consistency of nearly-cured-concrete and stuck to the shovels. Took us AGES to get finished, and in the end I resorted to sitting in the middle of the dirt pile throwing big bits of dirt towards the holes, as it was the easiest thing to do (and quite effective, I might add).
Here is the fruit of our labour:
Eucalyptus Robusta
Brushbox
Well done guys...looks like they survived your 'unusual' planting methods!!They look nice & advanced...by the time you move in they will be even bigger.
